HAY KING GENERAL RULES
- Hay entered must have been produced since the previous fair on a Klickitat County farm owned or operated by exhibitor.
- An exhibit consists of one whole small bale or a 2 ft. end section of a large bale, adequately tied; If large bale, please contact the department superintendent for handling information
- One bale entered per field; no limit on number of fields or variety.
- Two core samples taken at time of entry.
- Class winners to be determined by index score unless bale with highest score receives a white ribbon in visual score
- Class winner determined at judge’s discretion. Two judges will be used and an average will be taken.
- Klickitat County Hay King selected from Class Champions using the same judging criteria
- Awards: Class Champion/Rosette; Hay King Sign & Sponsored Award
Disqualifications:
- Noxious or Poisonous Weeds
- Any evidence of tampering to influence or change the hay analysis or scoring procedure is just cause to disqualify a competitor (e.g., using any substance not normally involved in haymaking process, such as coloring or ammonia); preservatives are legal.

- a. Stage of Maturity b. Foreign Material c. Steminess, Leafiness, Leafhold d. Condition (smell, mold, texture, excessive moisture) e. Color f. Bale Appearance
